Rhizophora mangle
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 443. 1753
.
"Habitat in paludibus Caribaearum, Malabariae." RCN: 3433.
Type not designated.
Original material: [icon] in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 6: 91, t. 34. 1686; [icon] in Plumier, Nov. Pl. Amer.: 13, t. 15. 1703.
Generitype
of
Rhizophora
Linnaeus
(vide Green,
Prop. Brit. Bot.
: 157. 1929).
Current name:
Rhizophora mangle
L.
(
Rhizophoraceae
).
Note:
Fawcett & Rendle (
Fl. Jamaica
5: 300. 1926) noted the presence of material in LINN but did not refer to it as the type, despite the attribution of Nicolson & al. (in
Regnum Veg.
119: 217. 1988) of a typification to these authors. Keay (in
Kew Bull.
8: 123. 1953) designated material in
Herb. Sloane (
BM-SL
)
as
lectotype
, but as it was neither seen by Linnaeus, nor was it even the basis for a Sloane illustration, it is not original material for the name.
