Type material.
This subspecies was described from
seven specimens
collected from the Indian Ocean sector of the Antarctic. The Zoological Museum of the
Moscow State
University has
two syntype
lots (Mb–1049 & 1050)
.
Diagnosis.
According to
Vinogradov (1962)
and
Vinogradov
et al
. (1982)
; like typical form except for the following. Length of sexually mature specimens
27 mm
. Individuals of all ages have distal corner of pleonites produced into small dorsal denticle, that of pleonite 1 much stouter than for typical forms. Gnathopod 1 with slightly more elongated propodus. Uropoda with relatively longer and narrower rami. The latter two characters are more obvious in younger specimens (
7–12 mm
) becoming less obvious in larger individuals.
Remarks.
I have not seen any specimens of this subspecies but accept its validity based on the observations of
Vinogradov (1962)
. Most of the specimens of the typical form that I have examined have poorly developed dorsal denticles on pereonite 7 and the pleonites, or they are absent, particularly in smaller individuals.
Distribution.
Apparently only known from the
type
material from the Indian Ocean sector of the Antarctic, from 55ºS to the coastal waters of the Antarctic continent (Davis Sea); in hauls from
4500 m
to the surface and
240–
600 m
.
