( Figures 1A, B ) Figure 1. (A) Atrocolus guarani sp. nov. , male holotype; (B) Atrocolus guarani sp. nov. , female paratype; (C) Acanthocornis flavus sp. nov. , female holotype; (D) Myzomorphus gounellei Lameere , female. Description Male Integument dark brown. Head with sparse punctures, concentrated in the internal sides of the upper lobes of the eyes. Antennae hairless, the apex attaining the basal third of the elytra; scape with fine and sparse punctures, antennomeres 3–11 with a few superficial punctures. Pronotum with regular surface and sparse punctures more concentrated on the sides. Prosternum densely rugose-punctate; mesosternum and metasternum very finely and sparsely punctate. Elytra hairless, with eight longitudinal carinae from base to apex, finely punctate in the dull interspace between carinae. Femora and tibiae finely and sparsely punctate. Ventrites I–IV hairless, very finely and sparsely punctate. Ventrite V rounded in the apex and provided with a tuft of relatively short rigid hairs. Female Integument mostly dark brown; prothorax and basal half of the elytra chestnut-orange coloured, in the elytra this colour extended backwards by the external sides reaching the beginning of the apical third. Antennae shorter, reaching the basal fifth of the elytra. Ventrite V transversely truncated in the apex. Etymology The species epithet refers to the people that inhabit Paraguay , Uruguay , and parts of Argentina , Brazil and Bolivia . Measurements in mm, holotype male / paratype female Total length 16.0 / 19.9; prothorax length 2.8 / 3.0; prothorax width 5.0 / 5.4; elytral length 11.0 / 13.5; humeral width 5.8 / 6.5. Type material Male holotype , Paraguay , Cordillera : San Bernardino, November 1930 , K. Fiebrig col. ( USNM ). Paratype female, same locality and collector, in Alchornea iricurana Casar. (Euphorbiaceae) ( USNM ). Comments Atrocolus guarani is very similar in aspect to A. mariahelenae Monné and Monné, 2008 . It differs by the sparse punctures in the occiput and pronotum, by the dull interspaces between elytral carinae and by the hairless abdomen. In A. mariahelenae the occiput and pronotum are densely and coarsely punctate, the interspace between carinae is shining and the abdomen is hairy in the posterior margin of each ventrite.
