[ Fig. 3H, I ] Endemic to the Atlantic Forest ( Sobral et al. 2009 ) from the northeast to south regions of Brazil ( Sobral et al. 2010 ). In the Northeast, it is cited from the States of Bahia ( Sobral et al. 2010 ). New records of this species for State of Pernambuco are presented here. This species is considered extinct in the State of Pernambuco , with no records in the last 60 years. Trees 6–12 m tall. This species differs from Marlierea excoriata by having larger leaves (30–40 × 10–13 cm ) and pilose fruit; it differs from other Myrcia species by having the calyx closed in the bud, tearing open irregularly.
