From the generic name Harpalus [ q.v .] and the suffix - ellus (small, little) [masculine]. Diversity. Four Palaearctic species, of which one is Holarctic. Identification. The North American species was covered in Lindroth (1968: 815-817) monograph under the name Harpalellus basilaris .
