A revised synonymy, typification, and key to species of Cleome sensu stricto (Cleomaceae) Author Roalson, Eric H. text Phytotaxa 2021 2021-04-09 496 1 54 68 http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/phytotaxa.496.1.2 journal article 10.11646/phytotaxa.496.1.2 1179-3163 5423496 10. Cleome heratensis Bunge & Bienert ex Boissier (1867: 412) . Lectotype (designated here): Afghanistan , Herat , Sep. 1858 , Bunge s.n. ( P barcode P00741835 !; isolectotypes: K barcode K000643940 !, G , L barcode L1850548 !, LE barcodes LE00013133 [photo!] & LE00013134 [photo!], P barcodes P00741834 ! & P00741836 !, P [no barcode]). Heterotypic synonym: Cleome gaubae Rechinger (1940: 38) . Type : Iran : Khorasan , 10 Jul. 1937 , Gauba 2504 ( holotype : W barcode W19520000311 [photo!]) . Note : Since Bunge did not designate an herbarium location for his types and there are significant portions of his collections at both LE and P ( Hb. Cosson ), lectotypification of C. heratensis is necessary. Both collections at LE are small and without mature fruits, while one of the collections at P is in good shape, and includes good vegetative material, flowers, and fruits ( P00741835 !). For these reasons it is chosen as the lectotype . There are not digitized collections of this type from G , although it is expected that a duplicate resides there, as suggested by Hedge and Lammond (1970), and given the naming of the species by Boissier . Geographic distribution: Iran , Afghanistan .
