Martintella aurata sp. nov. and M. fernandoi sp. nov. can be separated from other species in the genus by the morphological characteristics cited in the identification key and the diagnoses of these species. It is interesting that both new species were found in the same locality on the same date. Martintella lestes ( type species of Martintella from Mexico ) shows a preference for rather open, seasonally dry forest habitat. Such type of open forest habitat is generally uncommon in Costa Rica—except in western Guanacaste—where it is particularly well represented. The limited distribution so far shown by Martintella in Costa Rica seems likely to be due to habitat preference.
