Paratypes : ECUADOR : 1 ♂ , Prov. Napo , vic. Puerto Misahuali , 1º2'4.2"S 77º39'49.2"W , 1650–1900 ft. , 6–19-IX-1998 , J.E. ( UFRG ) ; 1 ♀ , Amazonas , W. a Tarapaca , Km 6 , Vereda San Jose , Escuela Sabio Caldas , Leticia , 5-V-1992 , A. Saenz leg. ( JEEC ) . Etymology. diamphidiosa , feminine adjective, from Gr. diamphidios , meaning utterly different, referring to its distinct external genital morphology. Diagnosis. Pygophore with marginal processes on each side of dorsal rim medially, each projected posteriorly and inwards genital cup; marginal processes acute apically; parameres head spatulate, embedded in segment X basally; segment X elongate, surpassing posterior margin of pygophore, carinate dorsally, sinuous distally, and blunt apically. Gonocoxites 9 strongly concave; anterior and posterior margins of gonocoxites 8 sinuate, each with a notch medially; capsula seminalis globose, with one projection laterally and one small projection distally. Description. Disc of scutellum reddish; apex of scutellum with 1+1 small ivory calluses ( Fig. 5 ). Urosternites yellow; each urosternite with brown, punctuated stripes sub-laterally; lateral portion of each urosternite yellow, lateral margin of each urosternite outlined in black, distal angle black. Each connexival sclerite yellow; each anterior and posterior margins brown. Proportion of antennal segments: I <II> III <IV <V. Male genitalia. Pygophore trapezoidal; posterolateral angles, ventral rim, parameres, and segment X setose ( Fig. 13 ). Posterolateral angles flap-like. Marginal processes on each side of dorsal rim medially, each projected posteriorly and inwards genital cup; marginal processes acute apically. Ventral rim impressed medially ( Fig. 14 ). Head of parameres spatulate, embedded in segment X basally. Segment X elongate, surpassing posterior margin of pygophore; carinate dorsally, sinuous distally, and blunt apically. Female genitalia. Genital plates setose. Gonocoxites 8 concave; wider than long; sutural margins apart, parallel to each other; lateral and posterior margins sinuate ( Fig. 15 ). Gonapophyses 8 apparent, strongly sclerotized. Posterior margin of each laterotergite 8 with short, acute projection; laterotergites 8 each bearing a spiracle. Gonocoxites 9 strongly concave; anterior and posterior margins sinuate, each with a notch medially; gonocoxites 9 projecting over gonapophyses 9. Laterotergites 9 concave, surpassing tergite VIII, each obtuse apically, quadrate anteriorly. Chitinellipsen elliptical; thickening of vaginal intima globose ( Fig. 16 ). Ductus receptaculli proximalis longer than vesicular area; median duct of vesicular area sinuous basally; ductus receptaculli distalis longer than half-length of vesicular area; ductus receptaculli distalis not convoluted distally. Posterior margin of pars intermedialis wider than anterior margin; capsula seminalis globose, with one projection laterally and one small projection distally. Measurements (mm). Total length, 4.88 ± 0.68 (4.03–5.87); length of head, 0.75 ± 0.04 (0.70–0.80); head length ahead of eyes, 0.37 ± 0.01 (0.37–0.40); interocular distance, 0.82 ± 0.03 (0.80–0.87); length of antennal segments: I, 0.29 ± 0.05 (0.23–0.37); II, 0.76 ± 0.06 (0.67–0.80); III, 0.59 ± 0.05 (0.53–0.67); IV, 1.09 ± 0.05 (1.03–1.17); V, 1.25 ± 0.09 (1.13–1.37); width of head, 0.69 ± 0.02 (0.67–0.70); width of pronotum, 3.39 ± 0.23 (3.17–3.67); length of pronotum, 1.21 ± 0.05 (1.13–1.27); width of scutellum, 2.17 ± 0.12 (2.00–2.27); length of scutellum, 2.31 ± 0.24 (2.10–2.57); width of abdomen at third segment, 3.36 ± 0.26 (3.17–3.72). Distribution. Colombia (Amazonas), Ecuador (Napo) ( Fig. 22 ). Comments. The external and internal male and female genitalia of E. diamphiosa are quite different from the other species of the genus (see Diagnosis and Description above), thus this species is tentatively placed in this genus until monophyly and phylogenetic relationships of Elanela are tested.
