Type species. Freytagolidia ligula sp. nov. External morphology. General color dark, golden brown to black with yellow transverse band on pronotum and crown. Head narrower than pronotum, anterior margin obtusely angulate; crown broad, equal to width of eyes, produced distally beyond anterior margin of eyes for about 1/3 of entire median length; eyes semiglobular; pronotum shorter than median length of crown; mesonotum large, twice as long as median length of pronotum; forewings long, broad; clypeus long, narrow, median longitudinal carina prominent; clypellus short, less than 1/3 as long as clypeus, narrow basally, inflated medio-basally, apex expanded laterally. Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view broad, with prominent, setaceous caudodorsal lobe projecting ventrally, long, robust caudoventral process reaching to lobe ( Fig.1 ); subgenital plate in ventral view very long, broad in basal half, ligulate in distal half, setaceous ( Fig. 2 ); connective broadly Y-shaped, stem short, membranous medially ( Fig. 7 ); style short, not as long as aedeagus, apophysis narrow, attenuated distally ( Figs. 3, 4 ); aedeagus short, tubular, shaft setaceous, gonopore sub-basal and exiting laterally in ventral view ( Fig. 6 ) and curved laterally, with attached dorsal connective lying ventrally in lateral view ( Fig. 5 ); dorsal connective ( Figs. 5, 6, 8 ) nearly as long as aedeagus, bifurcate basally and with membranous flange on each side in ventral view. Etymology. The generic name is a patronym, named for Dr. Paul H. Freytag who has a distinguished record of fine contributions in leafhopper taxonomy. Remarks. The type species is large and robust, similar in general habitus to Korsigianus Nielson, 1979 and Licontinia Nielson. The male genitalia are distinctive. The genus has a unique subgenital plate in which the distal half is a long, ligulate process ( Fig. 2 ). The flanged dorsal connective is also distinctive ( Figs. 5, 8 ). These features will separate Freytagolidia from all other known genera in the tribe. The genus is monobasic, known only from 1 species presented below.
