Type species: Velebitodesmus cavernicolus Antić and Reip , new species , by present designation. Etymology: The new genus is named after Mt. Velebit, its type locality, and is masculine in gender. Diagnosis: 19 segments (♂, ♀). Differs from other genera of European Trichopolydesmidae by the presence in the gonopod of a caudally curved acropodite supplied with a massive lamella, coupled with a U-shaped excavation between the lamella and a well-developed, basal, lanceolate process; a strongly chitinized lobe and a triangular process with two additional claw-shaped apophyses are present in the apical part of the acropodite.
