Schubart & Ng (2020)
revised the systematics of mangrove and freshwater species associated with
Pseudosesarma
Serène & Soh, 1970
, and several other East and Southeast Asian genera, and transferred many to new genera. Two distinctive species often found in back mangroves and peat swamps were referred to
Contusarma
. The most distinctive feature of members of this genus is the flattened outer surfaces of the chelae in both sexes. This feature is distinct in adults but still discernible in subadults.
