Fossil specimens of this genus are commonly collected from the Pliocene to Pleistocene of Japan (e.g., Karasawa 1990 , 1993, 1997; Karasawa & Matsuoka 1993 ; Sakumoto 2000 ; Karasawa & Nobuhara 2008 ; Izumi & Sato 2017 ). The extant specimens are known from South and East Africa to the western Pacific ( Miyake 1983 ; Ikeda 1998 ; Castro 2007 ; Mohanty et al . 2016 ).
