Diagnosis.
Most similar to
N. humerella
, from which differs by dark brown background colour of forewing (grey in
N. humerella
), yellow colour of light scales suffused in the basal part of the forewing and forming oblique stripe in the apical part of it (white in
N. humerella
), pointed apex of valva (widely rounded in
N. humerella
) and short valva, which is shorter than tegumen (longer in
N. humerella
). Also resembles
N. agassizi
, from which it differs by the presence of both dark brown and yellow scales near forewing base (basal quarter of forewing in
N. agassizi
is monotonously silver grey).
Description
. Male (
Figs. 1
,
10
). FWL
4.7–6.5 mm
; WLR 0.36–0.41. Vertex with sparse row of dark brown piliform scales along the occipital margin; frons glossy silver. Eyes enlarged, touching each other occipitally; interocular index 1.2. PLB 0.5 × vertical eye diameter and 1.3–1.5 × scape, dark brown. Proboscis dark brown.

Antenna 2.2 × FWL. Scape and basal 5–7 segments of flagellum uniformly dark brown; following flagellar segments brown, ventrally with distinct yellowish white spots; apex of flagellum (5–10 segments) silver white. Tegula and thorax silver grey. Forewing brown; basal half densely scattered with both dark brown and light yellow scales (approximately in 5:1 ratio), except for a small area at the base of costa, which due to the absence of light scales looks like a dark spot. Oblique stripe in the apical part of forewing straight, short (not reaching 0.5 × forewing width), bordered by dark brown scales; its colour changes from white near the costa to light yellow in the middle of forewing. Wing apex behind this oblique stripe densely scattered with both dark brown and yellow scales. Wing margin between the veins RS1 and M2 with light bronze to ochreous yellow spot, which is not bordered by dark scales. Fringe brown. Hindwing brown; costal area grey to light brown; fringe brown apically to light brown basally. Legs brown; apices of tibiae and of all tarsomeres white; fore and hind tibiae medially with white spots; base of the first tarsomere white. Epiphysis at 0.55, reaching tip of tibia. Abdomen light brown; sternites distally white.
Female unknown.

Male genitalia (
Figs. 18–22
,
38, 39
). Tegumen long and narrow, with W-shaped apex. Socius elongate, 1.4–1.6 × diameter of phallus. Vinculum 1.9 × length of valva, with almost straight lateral margins, widely rounded basally; distal margin of vinculum indistinct, fused to valvae. Apex of tegumen extends beyond the apex of valva. Valvae fused basally up to 0.5 × total length; their internal margins indistinct; dorsal margin of valva almost straight; distal part of valva wide, nearly rectangular; apex of valva pointed. Anellus 0.6 × length of valva. Transtilla with small triangular medial process. Juxta 0.45 × length of phallus; arrow head very narrow (WLR 0.2), with pointed tip and extremely long pointed lateral arms. Phallus 1.3 × length of vinculum, straight; base of phallus anchor-shaped.

Comments
. This is the only species of the
kalshoveni
species-group confined to the Oriental region; the remaining species are described from the Australian region. Walsingham labelled the specimen from Liwa as
Chrysothauma apicestrigatum
, but never published the description.
