Comments.
The identity of
Cis crenatus
has never been revised, and it is listed as a valid species in all four main
Ciidae
catalogues (
Dalla Torre 1911
,
Abdullah 1973
,
Jelínek 2008
,
Królik 2020
).
Cis crenatus
was described by Carl Reinhold Sahlberg based on an unknown number of specimens collected by Carl Gustaf Mannerheim. Both Sahlberg’s and Mannerheim’s collections are deposited in the Finnish Museum of Natural History (
Silfverberg 1995
). During a careful examination of the
Ciidae
collection in MZH,
two syntypes
(male and female) were found that are clearly conspecific with
Cis micans
. The following new synonymy is proposed:
Cis micans
(Fabricius, 1792)
=
Cis crenatus
C. R.
Sahlberg, 1836
,
syn. nov.
Male
syntype
is designated here as
lectotype
.
I also had the opportunity to study the
syntype
of
Cis hispidus
var.
albohispidulus
Reitter, 1901
deposited in HNHM and can confirm its synonymy with
Cis micans
, as listed in recent catalogues (
Jelínek 2008
,
Królik 2020
). The
syntype
bears the label „
Holotype
“ added by subsequent curators. Since the number of specimens was not specified in the original description (
Reitter 1901
), it is clearly a
syntype
and I designate it here as
lectotype
.
