Diagnosis.
Male (
Fig. 61
) and female similar to
S. aenescens
in the following characters: Body black or bluish black with metallic luster. Frons without orbital spots but velvety black parafacial spots below level of antenna present. Frons with pair of posterior orbital setae. Scape dark brown to black, concolorous with other antennal segments (

). One pair of apical scutellar setae present. Femur more reddish than yellow, the rest of legs blackish brown. Wing infumated, without spots. Male terminalia similar to that of
S. aenescens
(

Remarks.
This species is quite close to
S. aenescens
in both external characters and male terminalia.
Sepedon aenescens
was once considered to be a synonym of
S. sphegea
(Knutson, 1977)
. Characters for separating the two species are presented under

above and in couplet
3 in
the key, by which the specimens examined here were identified.
