Venkataraman & Das (1993)
,
Venkataraman
et al.
(2000)
; General record—
Fernando & Kanduru (1984)
, Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987),
Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003)
.
Remarks.
Valid species (
Smirnov 1976
,
1992
;
Kotov & Ferrari 2010
) described from
Gabon
(
Richard, 1892
).
Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003)
incorrectly listed “
raphalis
” as species epitheton.
Distribution.
Circumtropical, but non-African populations need to be revised.
Gurneyella odiosa
, see
M. odiosa
Macrothrix capensis
(
Sars, 1916
)
Indian records.
General record—
Fernando & Kanduru (1984)
.
Remarks.
For
India
it is a doubtful record.
M. capensis
was described as
Echinisca
from
South Africa
(
Sars 1916
). Then similar populations were also found in
Australia
(
Smirnov & Timms 1983
;
Smirnov 1992
).
Smirnov (1976)
regarded
monodi
as a subspecies of
E. capensis
. Perhaps this was a reason for the determination by
Fernando & Kanduru (1984)
. Most probably they meant
M. odiosa
.
Macrothrix chevreuxi
Guerne and Richard, 1892
Indian records.
Assam
—
Biswas (1980)
;
Rajasthan
—
Biswas (1971)
; General record—
Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003)
.
Remarks.
It was described from
Senegal
and
Gabon
(Guene &
Richard 1892
).
M. chevreuxi
was found to be a junior synonym of
M. triserialis
(Michael & Sharma B.K. 1988;
Smirnov 1992
). Then
Dumont
et al.
(2002)
and
Kotov
et al.
(2004)
concluded that “
M. triserialis
” is a large group of cryptic species, but it seems that actual
M. triserialis
s.str.
(described from
Sri Lanka
) is present in
India
. It is unknown what
Biswas (1971)
meant under this name, perhaps
M. triserialis
.
Macrothrix goeldi

Indian records.

, Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987),
Murugan
et al.
(1998)
;
Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003)
.
Remarks.
It was described from
Chile
(
Richard 1897
). Junior synonym of
M. spinosa
(
Dumont & Van de Velde 1977
;
Smirnov 1992
;
Kotov & Ferrari 2010
).
Macrothrix groenlandica
Lilljeborg, 1901
Indian records.
Jammu & Kashmir—
Brehm (1936)
; General record—
Fernando & Kanduru (1984)
, Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987), Michael & Sharma B.K. (1988),
Murugan
et al.
(1998)
,
Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003)
.
Remarks.
It was described from
Greenland
, territory of
Denmark
(
Lilljeborg 1901
). According to opinion of many recent investigators (
Hudec 1983
;
Margaritora & Usai 1983
;
Silva-Briano 1998
;
Kotov 2007
, 2008), characters discriminating
M. groenlandica
from
M. hirsuticornis
fall within the variability of the latter. Therefore
M. groenlandica
is a junior synonym of
M. hirsuticornis
.
