Hyoseris cretica
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
2
: 810. 1753
.
"Habitat in Creta." RCN: 5905.
Neotype
(Nordenstam in Rechinger,
Fl. Iranica
122: 139. 1977): Herb. Linn. No. 957.11 (
LINN
)
.
Current name:
Hedypnois rhagadioloides
(L.) F.W. Schmidt
(
Asteraceae
).
Note:
Although 957.11 (LINN) lacks a
Species Plantarum
number (i.e.
"8"
) and is believed to have been a later addition to the herbarium, and not original material for the name, Nordenstam treated it as the type. However, as there are no original elements in existence,
Nordenstam's
type choice is accepted here as correctable to a
neotype
, under Art. 9.8.
Greuter (in
Candollea
31: 230. 1976) argued that the correct name in
Hedypnois
is
H. rhagadioloides
(L.) F.W. Schmidt
, regarding Dumont de
Courset's
preference for
"cretica"
as not definitely accepted by the author, and so not valid.
