Hygrobates striatus
n. sp

, holotype female A–D, paratype male E–F. A = dorsal view; B, F = ventral view; C = I-leg-4-6; D = palp; E = palp + capitulum. Scale bars = 50 µm.
Diagnosis
. Idiosoma with a lineation, in tangential view seen as distinct ribbons; P2 with an anteroventral extension with small denticles, P3 with 11–13 denticles; antenniform setae strong and stiff, dgl-4 enlarged.
Description
. Integument with a lineation, more dense and regular on venter, more coarse and irregular on dorsum, in tangential view visible as small ribbons. Antenniform setae strong and stiff, dgl-4 distinctly larger than other dg-l. Legs without swimming setae. Suture lines of Cx-III/Cx-IV incomplete.
Female: Colour yellowish, idiosoma dorsally 413 (518–632) long, ventrally 490 (583–680) long, 373 (462–543) wide. A pair of platelets laterally between pre- and postfrontalia. Posteromedial margin of Cx-I+II rounded. Suture lines of Cx-III/Cx-IV incomplete. Genital field 116 long and 66 wide with three pairs of elongated acetabula in triangular position; genital plates almost as long as gonopore, with long setae. Pre-genital sclerite 56 wide, post-genital sclerite 40 wide. Length/height of P1-P5: 42/38, 98/82, 84/62, 138/32, 42/19. P2 with an anteroventral denticulate extension, P3 with 12 (11–13) denticles. Length of I-leg-4–6: 128, 124, 92. Length of IVleg-4–6: 204, 204, 160.
Male: Idiosoma ventrally 653 (502–518) long and 486 (421) wide, dorsally (470–478). Posteromedial margin of Cx-I+II subtriangular. Genital field 130 long and 170 wide, anteriorly indented, acetabula elongated, setae shorter than in female; gonopore 62 long. Length/height of P1-P5: 22/38, 82/70, 74/48, 116/24, 36/16; P2 with a shorter anteroventral denticulate extension compared to
holotype
female. Length of I-leg-4–6: 98, 100, 84. Length of IV-leg-4–6: 156, 170, 130.
Etymology
. Named for the striated integument.
Remarks
.
Hygrobates limi
Wiles, 1991
from mainland
Malaysia
and
H. projectus
Wiles, 2004
from Sulawesi have a similar palp, but the acetabula more rounded and the setae of the genital field shorter.
Hygrobates projectus
is most similar in the striated integument and shape of antenniform setae, but it differs also in the female genital plates which are shorter than the gonopore.
Hygrobates henni
Wiles, 2004
from
Thailand
is similar in having elongated acetabula and strong antenniform setae, but differs in a papillose integument and a more narrow anteroventral extension of P2.
The
holotype
female is a young specimen. The male
paratypes
and the female
paratypes
have a shorter anteroventral extension of P2, but are otherwise similar, and are therefore assigned to the new species. The
paratype
female from the
type
locality has one normal genital plate and one aberrant genital plate, with the acetabula longer and lying in a different position.
Distribution.
Borneo.
