Diagnosis.
Low trochiform shells with regularly convex teleoconch whorls and impressed suture; denticulate aperture, basal columella tooth compound, parietal ridges usually strong. Sculpture consisting of beaded spiral cords; umbilicus deep (

Remarks.
Clanculus
appears already during the middle Eocene in the NE Atlantic and is recorded in the Western Tethys during the early Oligocene.
