Re-description.
Female.
Head, Thorax
: Essentially as in male (
Figs. 5
A–C), except paler coloration, antennae with sparser ventral cilia.
Abdomen
: Paler than male. Genitalia (
Figs. 5D, F
) with papillae anales moderate, sub-triangular posteriorly; ostium bursae nearly circular, distinctly sclerotized on ventral side; sterigma with broad lateral parts slightly tapering laterally, very long setae on its lateral parts near ostium bursae; apophyses anteriores almost as long as apophyses posteriores; antrum cup-shaped, short, with weakly sclerotized walls (
Figs. 5D, F
); colliculum less sclerotized than antrum, two times the length of ductus bursae (n = 3); ductus bursae short; ductus seminalis emerging from anterior end of ductus bursae near intersection with corpus bursae; corpus bursae elongate ovoid, signum elongate posteriorly, extended towards junction with ductus bursae or slightly beyond, mostly on an elevated area (
Fig. 5D
).
Distribution.
Syria
(
Damascus
);
Iran
: Sardab vally,
Bushehr
(
Razowski 1965
) and Vandarbon (
Osthelder 1938
);
Turkey
(
Kemal & Koçak 2016
).
Remarks.
Cnephasia grandis
was described by
Osthelder (1938)
based on three males and one female collected in
Iran
: „Sardab-Tal, Vandarban“ (= Sardab valley, Vandarbon in
Mazandaran Province
). Although a female specimen was collected at that time, no detailed description of the female was presented by
Osthelder (1938)
except for the wingspan. To my knowledge, the female genitalia have not been described. Among the examined specimens in the HMIM were seven females, some with the same collecting data as males, which provide convincing evidence that they are conspecific.
Comments.
Razowski (1965)
incorrectly identified the Sardab valley and Bushehr as in
Syria
.
