Taxonomic status.
Pieris cronissa
is a superfluous replacement name for
Papilio cronis
Cramer, 1775
and is invalid as a junior objective synonym of that name. As Cramer’s
type
of
cronis
was an artefact, made up of the forewings of an
H. cronis
specimen and the hindwings of a pierid butterfly (fig. 14),
Godart ([1824]
) decided to treat it as a pierid and unnecessarily gave it a new name.
