Among the Nearctic Microcoryphia , this character is otherwise present only in the genus Meximachilis Wygodzinsky , represented in the United States by M. cokendolpheri Kaplin from New Mexico . In both males and females of P. atlanticus , the posterior angle of the fourth urosternite is acutely pointed, although it can approach a right angle, which is characteristic of Pedetontus species. Previously, this species was known only from the type series of 12 adults and 5 juveniles from Durham, North Carolina ( Mendes 1981a ). These records add Alabama , Arkansas , Georgia , and Mississippi as new state records to the known distribution of this species.
