Larvae of N. americana are gregarious feeders and cause lesions on the skins of infested turkeys, especially free range birds ( Everett et al. 1973 ). Crossley and Proctor (1971) reported N. americana from domestic turkeys, “grouse,” and T. rufum from the piedmont region of Georgia .
