Total length: 19.2–19.5; head length: 1.6–1.6; head width: 3.3–3.2; pronotum length: 3.8–4.1; pronotum width: 13.7–13.9; scutellum length: 8.4–8.7; scutellum width: 6.4–6.7; abdominal width: 10.3– 10.9; length antennomers: I: 0.9–1.0; II: 1.5; III: 1.7; IV: 3.6; V: 3.8. Diagnosis. Specimens large ( 19.2–19.5 mm ). Dorsal surface green ( Fig. 25 E ). Ventral surface dark yellow to brown with transversal black lines on thorax and abdomen ( Fig. 25 F ). Antennae brown ( Fig. 25 E ). Pronotum with punctures concolorous with surface to brown ( Fig. 25 E ). Humeral angles short (1.3 times wider than long) ( Fig. 25 E ), apices brown ( Fig. 25 E ); humeral angle brown spot expanding into the pronotum in dorsal and ventral views ( Fig. 25 E,F ). Scutellum with punctures brown ( Fig. 25 E ); apex not reach end of corium ( Fig. 25 E ). Corium with all veins concolorous with surface ( Fig. 25 E ). Posterolateral angles of connexivum with apices concolorous with surface ( Fig. 25 E ); connexival segments without spot and flat ( Fig. 25 E ). Ventral surface. Thorax with black stripes ( Fig. 25 F ); dark stripe of the propleuron covering 2/3 of the width of the sclerite ( Fig. 25 F ). Proepisternum with dark stripe ( Fig. 25 F ). Evaporatorium concolorous with thorax ( Fig. 25 F ). Metasternal process ( Fig. 6 G ) with anterior apex straight and laterally little expanded, margin rounded; anterior face somewhat excavated; anterior bifurcation receiving fourth rostral segment. Legs brown ( Fig. 25 F ). Abdomen with spine of third segment acuminated ( Fig. 6 G ). Intersegmental areas black not reaching lateral margin ( Fig. 25 F ). Pseudosutures partially covered by superficial black stripe ( Fig. 25 F ). Median longitudinal brown band restricted to last segment ( Fig. 25 F ). Trichobotria one in line with spiracle and the other laterad. Posterolateral angles of segment VII not reaching the level of apices of laterotergites IX in females ( Fig. 6 F ). Male genitalia, dorsal side of the pygophore with a suffused brown area occupying 1/3 of the surface ( Fig. 6 A,B,D,F ). Posterolateral angle of the pygophore developed ( Fig. 6 A ). Superior process of genital cup laminar, narrow, short, rectangular; flattened and coarse in posterior view, continuing ventrally in a crenulated high carina ( Fig. 6 A,B,E ). Ventral rim not setose ( Fig. 6 C ). Female genitalia, valvifers VIII with distal margin with a small dentiform projection on the valvifers IX ( Fig. 6 F ); tumescence in the central region of valvifers VIII with a brown spot ( Fig. 6 F ). Laterotergites VIII with dark band on outer posterior margins ( Fig. 6 F ). FIGURE 6. A–G. Edessa ( E. ) fallenii Stål, 1872 : A–E, pygophore in dorsal, dorsolateral, ventral, posterior and posterolateral views, respectively; F, genital plates; G, metasternal process. Scale 1 mm. Male genitalia ( Fig. 6 A–E ): Parameres with brown margin; anterior lobe rounded; dorsal lobe rounded and subtriangular, curved apex; posterior lobe rounded and subtriangular ( Fig. 6 D,E ). Proctiger with subelliptical posterior face ( Fig. 6 D,E ). Ventral rim with expansions undeveloped and brown ( Fig. 6 C ). Female genitalia: Valvifers VIII with dark punctures; inner margins contiguous and not divergent; distal margin arched and forming distal U-shaped excavation. Laterotergites IX with apices acuminate passing the sclerite uniting laterotergites VIII ( Fig. 6 F ). Comments. The Edessa (E.) fallenii shares with E. (E.) leucocera and E. (E.) phoenicopus the humeral angles concolorous with pronotum and connexival segments spotless ( Fig. 25 E ). The first two species are more similar but can be separated by the humeral angle slightly longer and apex of scutellum far from the end of corium in E. (E.) fallenii ( Fig. 25 E ) (humeral angle shorter and apex of scutellum almost reaching the end of corium in E. (E.) leucocera Fig. 27 A ). E. (E.) fallenii can be separated from E. (E.) phoenicopus by the humeral angle less developed and corial veins concolorous with corium ( Fig. 25 E ) (humeral angles robust and corial veins yellow in E. (E.) phoenicopus Fig. 29 A ). Distribution ( Fig. 30 A,B ): PANAMA : Colón ; COLOMBIA : Bogotá ; VENEZUELA : Caracas.
