Length 6 1/2 lines.-Exactly similar in form to cruentatus , but with the head, thorax and abdomen black; the legs and mandibles pale rufo-testaceous, the femora and tibiae with dusky lines outside. Abdomen finely granulated and opake. Hab. Madras. This species very closely resembles cruentatus , but the joints of the antennae are much shorter, and the abdomen is granulated, the base being coarsely punctured. Whether either of the two species last described is the saltator of Jerdon it is impossible to determine satisfactorily; he says, "abdomen very long; sting large; head and abdomen blackish-brown; thorax and legs rufous." The abdomen in both of the new species is short.
