Deuterodon giton Eigenmann, 1908
Fig. 3G
Distribution.
Rio
Paraiba
do Sul, Brazil.
Diagnosis.
Deuterodon giton
differs from its congeners of the study area by having dentary teeth decreasing gradually in size until the sixth or seventh tooth; dentary with more than five cusps (usually seven or eight); infraorbital 3 totally exposed, with almost no naked area prior to preopercle; infraorbital 3 shiny due to high concentration of guanine crystals and low concentration of chromatophores.
Remarks.
Deuterodon giton
is described from the rio
Paraiba
do Sul basin. However, in the present study it was found in the rio Doce basin, confirming the first record of the species for this basin. The difference observed in the specimens between both morphotypes is a tendency of longer length in adult specimens from the rio
Paraiba
do Sul basin.
