PARATYPE : Chile : Same data as holotype (1 ♀, CNC ). Recognition . This species may be distinguished by dark pleura and legs; five dorsocentrals; strongly produced hypandrium, expanded and complex apex of the phallus and broad ejaculatory apodeme. Description . Male . Postpedicel globular with long, slender apical extension, arising subapically. Ocellar setae short, stout, subequal in length between anterior and posterior ocelli. Labrum 3/4 length of clypeus; palpus brown, subequal to labrum, tapered to slender apex. Pleura dark brown without bluish pruinescence. Chaetotaxy very short and stout; 1 pprn short, very slender; 2 npl; 5 dc, anterior dc offset; 2 apical sctl, 2X longer than prescutellar dc, 2 pairs of lateral sctl setulae. Legs dark brown; femora with antero- and posteroventral rows of pale, slender setae, longer on fore femur, subequal in length to width of fore femur; fore tibia with biserial row of erect setae. Wing length 2.2 mm ( Fig. 1 ); crossvein h distinct; base of wing with 4–5 somewhat thickened setae along posterior margin. Halter pale at base of stem. Male terminalia ( Figs 1 , 9 ): Cercus with short anterior expansion and narrow posterior lobe. Hypandrium broadly produced posteriorly; apex prolonged and tapered as postgonites; apical margin of postgonite extended anteriorly, narrow; posteroapical margin finger-like. Epandrium narrow, with short setae on apical half. Surstylus short, slender, slightly arched lobe; apex rounded. Phallus greatly expanded apically, with broad fluted membrane and long anterior rod; ejaculatory apodeme laterally flattened and expanded. Female . Similar to male. Terminalia not dissected. Etymology . Named after the type locality. Distribution . Known only from the type locality in Chile in PN Puyehue, collected on rocks in Rio Anticura ( Fig. 3 ). This is the first record of Asymphyloptera from Chile , long presumed to occur in this region of South America .
