Isodacrys
Sharp, 1911
(
figures 15, 16
)
Of the 13 described species, 10 are distributed in
Mexico
(
Morrone 1999
). Adults have been collected either from herbaceous plants of different families (
Asteraceae
,
Verbenaceae
,
Fabaceae
,
Cucurbitaceae
and
Solanaceae
) and trees (
Pinus
,
Quercus
,
Celtis
,
Condalia
and
Eucalyptus
), suggesting that species are general feeders during this stage (
Howden 1961
;
Anderson 2002
). They can be also found in leaf litter and under rocks. All
Isodacrys
are apterous and there are some undescribed species (
Howden 1970
). Its taxonomic position in
Tanymecini
is due to morphological affinities with other genera (
Sharp 1911
;
Howden 1961
.
1970
). Differences among
Isodacrys
,
Pandeleteinus
and some West Indian genera such as
Paradacrys
and
Paululusus
are mainly based on wing presence and other characteristics like width, length or curvature of aedeagus, distance between procoxae, depth of anterior sulcus on ventrites 3–5, among others (
Howden 1961
,
1969
,
1970
), that sometimes overlap, therefore their phylogenetic relationships and generic definitions need further study. See
Howden (1961)
to separate species.
