Eugenia queretaroana
E. Sánchez-Chávez & Zamudio, Acta Bot. Mex.
115: 55 (2016)
EOO:
70.725 km
².
AOO:
16 km
².
Evaluation of IUCN:
Endangered.
Eugenia queretaroana
occurs in the northeast of the state of
Querétaro
, on the slopes near streams and as an element of the abundant flora of the
Pinus-Quercus
forests, as well as of the humid mountain flora. It can also be found in the transition from the Humid Montane Forest to the Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest from
800 to 1,450 m
elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) falls within the thresholds of Critically endangered category under the criterion B, whilst the area of occupancy (AOO) falls between the thresholds of Critically Endangered and Endangered categories. There are only up to four known locations based on records or literature, all of them with different ongoing threats. The records have been collected within the “Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve”, in the municipalities of Jalpan de Sierra, Landa de Matamoros and Pinal de Amoles (INE-SEMARNAP 1999d). The habitat of the species is in good condition and with a low rate of ecological degradation (
CONABIO 2018
). As there is no information on population size, population severely fragmented or continuing fluctuations,
Eugenia queretaroana
is classified as Endangered (EN), as it meets the criteria B1ab(iii)+B2ab(iii) regarding its restricted distribution related to number of locations and continuing decline of habitat quality, especially in the areas outside the protected areas.
