Diagnosis. Antenna and secondary ciliary organs absent. Three prebranchial segments. Branchiae numbering up to 12 pairs; cylindrical with rounded tips, about six times as long as wide, similar in length to body width. Modified notochaetae forked. All neurochaetae capillaries. Distribution. Eastern Atlantic, from areas of North Sea close to Norway ( Mackie 1991 ) and Øresund, Skageraak, Kategaat ( Kirkegaard 1996 ) to Portugal ( Pardal et al . 1992 ). Barents Sea ( Strelzov 1973 ). Western Atlantic from New England ( Pettibone 1963 ) to Caribbean ( Díaz-Díaz et al . 2009 ). Mediterranean ( Campoy 1981 ). California ( Hartman 1957 , 1969 ).
