Type locality —“near the village Elau, on 2 days journey from San Salvador , Congo ”. Distribution —Northern Angola , Democratic Republic of the Congo , Republic of the Congo ( Brown 1980 : 50, 1994: 60). Remarks . Name and description attributed to O . Boettger by Schepman (1891: 111) . Boettger in Schepman (1891: 111) gave ranges of shell dimensions and Schepman (1891: 112) mentioned “ type specimens”, indicating that the description was based on more than one specimen. Kobelt (1912b: 40, pl. 30, figs. 2, 3) noted “Boettgers Typus ” as the shell illustrated in his pl. 30, figs. 2 and 3, and C.R. Boettger (1913: 104) also referred to Kobelt (1912b: pl. 30, figs. 2, 3) as having illustrated the “ Typus ”; neither of these statements constituted a lectotype designation as neither explicitly indicated selection of this specimen as the name-bearing type ( Code , Art. 74.5). The specimen in SMF 7455 matches the illustration (R. Janssen pers. comm. 20 October 2013 ). Valid species, teste Kobelt (1912b: 39), Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 188) , Brown (1980 : 50, 1994: 60) and Berthold (1991: 246) , who all placed it in Lanistes s. str . connollyi Lanistes ( Meladomus ) connollyi Pain , 1954 : 2 , figs. 1, 2.
