Distribution
(
Fig. 8
). A West Mediterranean species occurring in
France
(
Le Doaré & Vinçon 2006
),
Spain
and extending in the Moroccan mountain ranges through the Rif and up to the northern edge of the Middle Atlas (Tierno de Figueroa
et al
. 2003, Errochdi
et al
. 2014 and Vinçon
et al
. 2014).
Ecology.
Larvae are cold stenothermic and crenophilic, occurring only in high altitude brooks and springs (
1200–1800 m
) (
Aubert 1961
,
Errochdi & El Alami 2008
, Errochdi
et al.
2014) (
Figs. 13
–15). In
Spain
it is more eurytopic (
15–1800 m
) (
Sánchez-Ortega
et al.
2003
, Tierno de Figueroa
et al.
2003) and in septentrional localities of
France
, it only occurs in the foothills, and associated with calcareous substratum (Reding and G. Vinçon, personal observations). The immature larvae appear to be detritivorous and gradually change to become more herbivorous (
Azzouz & Sánchez-Ortega 2000
). The adults emerge in spring (III–VI).
