Only a single specimen of this species is currently known. LÖBL (1975 , 1986 ) transferred the species from Amalocera to Baeocera and supplemented its description. PIC (1920) gave Java as its type locality. According to the original label, the specimen was collected in July 1892 by H. Frustorfer, at Gn. Gedeh NW Preanger 4000[feet].
