Polytes fenestra
Breddin 1903a: 122
(in part).
Description. Dorsum black with orange to red marking as follows: cicatrices; 2 oval macules on pronotum, 1 just laterad of midline on either side; 2 submarginal, oval macules on anterior half of scutellum. Dorsal punctation dense, concolorous. Venter uniformly black, posterior margin of last abdominal sternite with large, pale, bilobed macule at meson. Length 8.4-8.5.
Head broadly rounded anteriorly; length 2.0, width across eyes 2.7. Length of antennal segments 1-4 (segment 5 missing from types): 0.5; 0.4-0.5; 0.5-0.6; 1.0. Rostrum pale at intersegmental sutures, reaching 2nd visible abdominal sternite.
Pronotum 2.5-2.7 long at meson, 5.3 wide across humeri. Anterolateral margins distinctly convex, flattened to finely carinate. Coxae, trochanters, and tarsi brown to dark brown, remainder of legs uniformly black. Propleura with thin, pale band on lateral margins.
Scutellum 4.9-5.2 long at meson, 4.8-4.9 broad at widest point.
Venter of genital cup as in
P.
confusus;
posterior margin with shallow, mesial emargination in dorsal and caudal views (
Fig. 85 and 86
). Impression in floor of genital cup angled toward posterior margin (
Fig. 85
). Parameres hookshaped, head elongate, with small tooth at apex; shank relatively long, thin (
Fig. 87
). Conjunctival diverticula as in
P.
bicolor.

PARATYPE

The paratype is a paralectotype, as designated by Gaedike (1971), of
P.
fenestra.
Distribution. Northern Peru, known only from the type series.
Comment.
Polytes bullocki
and
P.
bicolor
are very similar and may be conspecific. However, the differences in the shape of the parameres and dorsal coloration appeared to be adequate to separate the two at this time. Both species are closely related to
P.
lattini,
differing from the latter species in coloration and in the more elongate head of the parameres. This species is named for R. C. Bullock in recognition of his contributions to citrus entomology in Florida.
