Comment on the
type
specimens:
As Pic (1933: 23) made no reference to
type
specimens in his descriptions of
Plathanocera lineata
, it cannot be assumed that the nominal species-group name,
Plathanocera lineata
, was based on a single specimen. The 'type' specimen located in the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris (
MNHN
) must therefore considered a
syntype
(
ICZN
1999: Article 73.2) and available for
lectotype
designation (
ICZN
1999: Article 74.1).

Length:
7–10 mm
(14 specimens measured).
Head:
Brown, slightly reddish, with dense and fine punctation, between eyes finely and diffusely punctate; with yellow, strong, hairs, directed towards middle. Frons with broad, black-brown, longitudinal stripe. Antennal base red, from A5 onwards black, A11 long, inner margin more or less straight, outer margin rounded, pointed, distal margin mostly yellowish. Gular process long, narrow.
Thorax:
Pronotum red brown, paler towards lateral margins; with conspicuous wrinkles before anterior transverse impression, middle smooth, very finely and diffusely punctate, length to width index 0.81:1–0.88:1; vested with whitish to yellowish hairs, longer at lateral margins.
Elytra:
Red brown, darker than rest, apex frequently paler; diameter of punctures only one third of interstices, interstices with fine longitudinal carina, punctures are orientated at this “line”, diameter of punctures decreasing towards apex, length to width index 1.71:1–1.86:1; elytra vested with sparse, yellow, erect and posteriorly directed hairs.
Legs:
Reddish brown, with long, white, erect setae; tibiae darker, with short carinae at base.
Abdomen:
Yellow-brown,
V5 and V6
slightly paler, sparsely vested with fine, white hairs; pygidium laterally more round, apical margin straight; male
V6
with slight emargination, female
V6
without emargination.
Aedeagus:
Tegmen with short apically tapering phallobasic lobes; phallobasic apodeme distally only slightly broadened (
Fig. 10
).
