Munidopsis serricornis
(
Lovén, 1852
)
Munidopsis serricornis
has previously been reported by many names:
Galathea serricornis
,
Galathea tridentata
,
Galathodes serricornis
,
Galathodes rosaceus
,
Galathodes tridentat
,
Munidopsis tridentatus
,
Munidopsis tridentata
,
Munidopsis bahamensis
,
and
Munidopsis tenuirostris
(see
Baba
et al.
2008
). This species has been reported throughout the Atlantic and in the Pacific in depths of
200 to 1665 m
(
Milne-Edwards 1880
;
Milne-Edwards 1882
;
Ortmann 1892
;
Milne-Edwards & Bouvier 1900
;
Chace 1942
;
Macpherson & Segonzac 2005
;
Baba
et al.
2008
). Four specimens (one labeled
M. bahamensis
and three labeled
M. tridentata
)
of
M. serricornis
were available for analysis: two males (CW from
7.9 to 11.1 mm
), one female (
3.5 mm
), and one ovigerous female (not measured). These specimens were examined and all were morphologically synonymous with
M. serricornis
. All specimens were from the Gulf of
Mexico
and were collected in May, June, and September in depths from
402 to
788 m
.
