Milne-Edwards, 1880 ) Diptychus nitidus A. Milne-Edwards, 1880: 134 , pl. 11, figs. 21–22, pl. 12, figs. 10–16. Material examined. None. Distribution. Western Atlantic— USA ( Georgia , Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Bahamas , Caribbean Sea to Brazil ( Pernambuco , Espírito Santo , São Paulo , Paraná , Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul ) ( Melo 1999 ; Melo-Filho 1999 , 2006 ; Felder et al. 2009 ; Baba & Wicksten 2017). Remarks. The absence of specimens collected by us is probably due to our sampling effort in shallow waters. We found three specimens deposited in the MZUSP collection (MZUSP 13194 and 13195) obtained at 25°18ʹS / 044°52ʹW and 808 m by the N.Oc. “Prof. W. Besnard” in 12.i.1998 , and identified as Uroptychus nitidus var. B by Melo-Filho (2006) .
