Botria
Rondani
,
1856

.
ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES:
Botria pascuorum
Rondani, 1856
(as “
B

Pascuorum

TYPE
SPECIES
:
Botria pascuorum
Rondani, 1856
(as “
B
.
Pascuorum
Mihi”) [=
Tachina frontosa
Meigen, 1824
], by original designation.
CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [
teste
Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 237
; as “
Bothria
”)].
FAMILY:
TACHINIDAE
.
REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in
Rondani (1856)
:
Botria
(page 68) and
Bothria
(page 203). Both names were used again by Rondani (1859):
Botria
(pages 155 [in the dative, plural “
Botriis
”], 167) and
Bothria
(page 233). By subsequent usage (ICZN
Code
Article 24.2.4),
Rondani (1862b: 10)
acted as First Reviser and selected
Botria
as the correct original spelling. Although
Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 237)
gave the method of
type
fixation for
Botria
(as “
Bothria
”) in
Rondani (1856: 68)
as by original designation, they listed the
type
species as dating from
Rondani (1859b: 168)
. This is incorrect. The characters in
Rondani (1856: 68)
that make the genus-group name available serve to also make available
Botria pascuorum
as the singly included species.

TYPE
SPECIES
:
Frontina spinigera
Rondani, 1861
(as “
B

Spinigera

Tachina strigata
Meigen, 1824
], by original designation.
CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [
teste
Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 255
; as “
Brachychaeta
”)].
FAMILY:
TACHINIDAE
.
REMARKS: Originally proposed as a subgenus of
Frontina
Meigen, 1838
. The printing of the genus-group name in
Rondani (1861e: 36)
appears to be “BRACHICHITA” but a close examination of the original publication shows the “E” in
Brachicheta
to be filled in so it looks like an “I”. The Junk 1914 facsimile edition has exacerbated the printing problem by making it appear even more like an “I” than in the original. Both the original spelling
Brachicheta
and the emended spelling
Brachychaeta
have been used in recent literature. Because neither is in prevailing usage, the valid name for the genus is the original spelling
Brachicheta
.
