The common mole, Talpa europaea (L., 1758), in nests. Host range. Haemogamasus nidi has a very wide spectrum of hosts, including numerous species of rodents and insectivores ( Bregetova, 1956a ; Zemskaya, 1973 ; Whitaker & Wilson, 1974 ; Goncharova et al ., 1991 ; Whitaker et al ., 2007 ). May feed also on small birds (sparrows) and bats ( Haitlinger, 1988 ). Distribution. Holarctic. In all areas of Asiatic Russia . Remarks. Sludsky (2014) listed Hg . nidi among mite species able to harbour Yersinia pestis – the causative agent of the plague
