Bulimus coloratus

, figs 2a─b.
Type
locality: la province de Cumana, dans la
Colombie
[sic,
Venezuela
, Estado Monagas].
Material.
Venezuela
, Estado Amazonas, Río Negro, A.A. Olsson leg., 1945 (UF 184700/1).
Remarks.
The label “
Venezuela
, Rio Negro” is not very conclusive about the precise locality where this specimen was found. It could refer either to the District Río Negro or to the borders of the river with the same name, both in the southwestern part of Estado Amazonas. In the latter case it would imply that the locality is at ca.
100 m
elevation. In the former case it covers an area of
37.903 km
2, which partly consists of uplands and highlands (including the Cerro de la Neblina massif).
Pilsbry (1895: 75)
quotes “La Esperanza estate, near Rio Negro” on the authority of Bland, suggesting a lowland occurrence; I do, however, not know if Bland ever collected in the Colombian-Venezuelan border region near the Río Negro. This is the southernmost record for this species, which is widely distributed in
Colombia
(Borrero, personal communication) and has been reported from north-western
Venezuela
by Arias (1953).
