), females: 9.5–13.0 mm.
Body almost completely yellowish brown, except black apices of mandibles.
Male (
holotype
,
Fig. 26
). Labrum transverse, 2.15 times as wide as long, anterior margin slightly rounded, anterior angles widely rounded, surface subopaque, with 8 pale setae in transverse row. Anterior part of head impunctate, lustrous, convex, with several long pale setae laterally along anterior margin and laterally along antennal insertions. Interantennal space 0.9 times wide as transverse diameter of antennal socket. Eyes large, interocular space narrow, 0.9 times as wide as transverse diameter of eye. Frontal tubercles subpentagonal, transverse, with anterior tips divergent, surface impunctate, dull. Vertex distinctly impressed behind frontal tubercles, surface glabrous, covered with fine punctures, medially behind frontal tubercles with indistinct narrow impunctate line. One setigerous pore with long pale seta placed behind inner posterior eye margin. Antennae thin, 0.85 times as long body, length ratio of antennomeres equals
15-5-12-17-17
-17-17-16-15-14-19.
Pronotum transverse, 2.11 times as broad as long, lustrous, moderately convex, widest in posterior half, sparsely covered with extremely fine punctures. Anterior margin widely concave, lateral margins parallel in posterior half, convergent and rounded anteriorly, posterior margin widely rounded. All margins distinctly bordered, border at posterior half of lateral margins slightly wider. Anterior angles swollen, posterior angles rectangular, all angles with setigerous pores bearing long pale seta, additional short setae visible on anterior half of lateral margins. Scutellum subtriangular, with rounded tip, glabrous, covered with indistinct fine punctures.
Elytra 1.83 times as long as wide and 0.75 times as long as body, almost glabrous, with several short setae visible on lateral and apical slopes, covered with dense confused punctures. Humeral calli well developed. Epipleura wide basally, narrowing at anterior third, thin posteriorly and disappearing before apex.
Anterior coxal cavities closed posteriorly. Last ventrite with two narrow incisions reaching ca 1/3 of ventrite lenght, median lobe with elongate oval impression, penultimate ventrite with small semicircular median concavity (
Fig. 39
). Protarsomere I narrowly elongate subtriangular, 1.60 times as long as wide, protarsomere II triangular, length ratio of protarsomeres I–IV equals
8-6-7-10
. Metatarsomere I long and narrow, length ratio of metatarsomeres I–IV equals
15-7-7-10.
Claws appendiculate (
Fig. 36
).
Aedeagus small, apical half subtriangular, ventrally with three elongate impressions. Dorsal process bulbous, apically with two flat processes, dorsally with large tuft of setae (

Differential diagnosis.
In habitus,
Coeligetes howardi
sp. nov.
is very similar to
C. unicolor
from
Java
, but differs in having aedeagus wide with apex subtriangular, ventrally with three longitudinal impressions subapically, and dorsal proces extremely bulbous with two flat processes anteriorly (
Fig. 35
). In
C. unicolor
the aedeagus is narrow, gradually narrowing towards apex, without any ventral impressions, and dorsal proces is not extremely bulbous, but with two small teeth laterally (
Fig. 28
). Penultimate abdominal ventrite in males of
C. howardi
sp. nov.
has a shallow semicircular impression in the middle of its basal half, while it is longitudinally impressed with two sharp teeth in
C. unicolor
(
Figs 29
,
39
). Females of both species can be distinguished by the shape of the last abdominal ventrite (with a deep U-shaped incision in
C. howardi
sp. nov.
, widely shallowly concave in
C. unicolor
) (
Figs 30
,
37
), by setation on rhomboidal sternite VIII (setae in apical half in
C. howardi
sp. nov.
, in apical quarter only in
C. unicolor
) (
Figs 34
,
40
), and by the structure of vaginal sclerite (with two longitudinal stripes in
C. howardi
sp. nov.
, darkened only in apices in
C. unicolor
) (
Figs 32
,
41
).
Distribution.
Malaysia
(
Sabah
,
Sarawak
),
Indonesia
(Borneo),
Brunei
. The data of
C. unicolor
from Borneo (
Mohamedsaid 1994
,
1997a
,

) refer to
C. howardi
sp. nov.
(voucher specimens examined).
Etymology.

Elytra with well developed humeral calli. Surface very densely covered with small confused punctures, almost glabrous, with several short setae visible on lateral and apical slopes. Epipleura wide basally, gradually narrowing posteriorly and disappearing before apex. Macropterous.
Posterior margin of anterior coxal cavities open. Last ventrite with elongate oval impression in median lobe wide, penultimate ventrite with small semicircular incision in middle of posterior margin. Claws bifid.
Aedeagus wide and flat with dorsal process thin and trifurcate. Vaginal sclerite absent, spermatheca with poorly delimited nodulus.
Differential diagnosis.
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
shares unspined tibiae with
Coeligetes
but differs in posterior margin of anterior coxal cavities open (closed in
Coeligetes
), very unusual wide and flat aedeagus with dorsal process thin and trifurcate, anterior part of head flat with wide posterior tip (elevated and convex with posterior tip narrower in
Coeligetes
), claws bifid (claws with small transverse appendix in
Coeligetes
), labrum with shallowly concave anterior margin (rounded or nearly straight in
Coeligetes
), female last ventrite with entire and regularly rounded posterior margin (incised in
Coeligetes
), vaginal sclerite absent (present in
Coeligetes
), spermatheca with poorly delimited nodulus (nodulus well developed in
Coeligetes
).
The posterior margin of anterior coxal cavities open is shared with representatives of strictly continental
Liroetis
. However,
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
can be distiguished from
Liroetis
by the structure of aedeagus (
Fig. 45
, for aedeagi of
Liroetis
see e.g.
Jiang 1988
), claws bifid (appendiculate in
Liroetis
), anterior part of head flat with wide posterior tip (elevated and convex with posterior tip narrower in
Liroetis
), spermatheca with poorly delimited nodulus (nodulus well developed in
Liroetis
), hind tibia in male without spine (with spine in
L. aeneipennis
Weise, 1889
,
type
species of
Liroetis
).
The genus
Luperogala
differs in the presence of a large long sword-like process from posterior margin of abdominal ventrite IV directed posteriorly, which is absent in all genera in the generic group including
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
The genus
Liroetoides
can be distinguished from
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
by closed posterior margin of anterior coxal cavities (open in
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
), abdominal ventrite V in male transversely concave or with two transverse cavities (with simple median impression in
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
), long and narrow aedeagus (wide and flat long in
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
), dorsal process of aedeagus long and narrow (trifurcate in
Coeligetoides
gen. nov.
).
Etymology.
Derived from the name of related genus
Coeligetes
. Gender: masculine.
