Diagnosis.
Head rather deep and downward inflected with poorly ossified opercular bones, anterior gill arch with 12–19 developed rakers on lower arm; 7–10 scales in an oblique row between origin of dorsal fin and lateral line.

First record in Brazilian waters. Collected from several stations off
Bahia
and
Rio de Janeiro
, at depths from
266 to 1275 m
. Previously known from
