Hypsioma albosericea
sp. nov.
(Fig. 4)
Etymology.
Latin, albus = white; sericeus = silken; relating to the silky whitish pubescence on basal declivity of elytra.
Description
. Integument dark-brown.
Head
. Frons longer than wide; covered with whitish pubescence; intermixed with yellowish pubescence on central band from middle to between antennal tubercles; gena and area around lower eye lobes with dense, whitish pubescence. Vertex sparsely punctate, with yellow pubescence. Genae one third longer than lower eye lobes; coarsely, sparsely punctate. Gula smooth, glabrous. Upper eye lobes with six rows of ommatidia, separated by distance equal to 2.1 times width of lobe. Distance between lower eye lobes equal to 2.5 times distance between upper eye lobes. Antennae reaching apex of elytra about base of antennomere X. Scape, pedicel and antennomere III dark-brown; antennomeres IV–XI reddish with apical third dark-brown. Antennomere III slightly sinuous.
Thorax
. Prothorax trapezoidal, lateral sides narrowed towards anterior margin; lateral sulcus inconspicuous. Pronotum with five tubercles, two rounded at top on each side, one central, inconspicuous. Prothorax with yellowish-white pubescence. Sides of prothorax and pronotum coarsely, sparsely punctate. Pro-, meso- and metasternum with whitish pubescence. Scutellum with brown pubescence centrally and whitish-yellow pubescence laterally.
Elytra
. Basal crest not projected; coarsely, sparsely punctate on basal third, gradually finer, sparser towards middle; surface covered with yellowish pubescence, except for the following whitish pubescent areas: band on basal declivity, variable depending on angle of light source, and abundant spots, denser on apical half, forming irregular pattern; Humeri orthogonal, with short carina.
Legs
. Covered with whitish, and intermixed yellowish, pubescence. Procoxae with obtuse tubercle.
Abdomen
. Urosternites with whitish pubescence; laterally with denser pubescent spot. Urosternite V slightly depressed, dark-brown centrally.
Dimensions in mm (female)
. Total length, 20.4; length of prothorax at center, 3.4; anterior width of prothorax, 4.2; posterior width of prothorax, 5.3; humeral width, 8.4; elytral length, 15.4.

Remarks.
In
Martins & Galileo (1990)
key to species,
Hypsioma albosericea
sp. nov.
will key to the alternative of couplet "13" with
H. barbara
Martins & Galileo. In
both species the prothorax is trapezoidal and sides are without lateral sulcus; basal elytral crest not projected, sparsely punctate.
H. albosericea
sp. nov.
differs in the basal declivity of elytra with silky, whitish pubescence; elytra centrally without band or whitish pubescent macula; and humeri without tubercle. In
H. barbara
, the elytra have a wide, oblique white pubescent band, and a conspicuous humeral tubercle.
