COMMENTS
: In the original description, Mathews gave a wing measurement of
68 mm
but otherwise said only that the
type
was from ‘‘
Cape
York’’. AMNH 608069 is the only
Cape
York
specimen of this species at AMNH from the Mathews Collection and its wing measures
68 mm
. In addition to McLennan’s field label, the specimen bears a Mathews
type
label and a Mathews Collection label, with his catalog number (not cited in the description) and the number ‘‘470’’, which refers to the number of this species in
Mathews (1908a)
.
Macgillivray (1914: 166)
said of this bird: ‘‘Only one bird seen and secured for identification. It proved to be an immature female, and was obtained at the Jardine
River
.’’
