Ecology: usually frequent in understory in shade or semi-shade of primary ( Dipterocarpus ) rain forest, evergreen forest, deciduous forest, gallery forest, secondary forest to deforested and very degraded seasonal forest with bamboo, scrub, and even in alang-alang (grass fields), very often in wet places like marshes or along water courses; also in cultivated places, often on or near limestone, partly even on guano near caves, clay loam, deep clay, ultramafic; bedrock: shale, quartzite, sandstone or granite, from sea level up to 1200(-2800) m elevation ( van Welzen et al . 2007 ). Distribution: India ( Assam , Nicobar Islands ), Sri Lanka , China , Myanmar , Thailand , Vietnam , Peninsular Malaysia , Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Philippines , Sulawesi , Lesser Sunda Islands , Moluccas , New Guinea , Australia ( van Welzen et al . 2007 ).
