Japan , Taiwan , China , Laos , Thailand , Philippines , West Malaysia , Borneo, Sumatra, New Guinea , New Britain. Diagnosis and remarks . The identity of this species is based on the detailed original description. The designation of a neotype from Taiwan would be desirable. However, the species appears to be rare on that island. Saccharodite coccinea is well characterized by the unbranched 1st median sector (or Ms1b completely fused with Cu1), the powdered forewings and the blood-red body. The pygofer has a ventral projection and the apical part of the male aedeagus has a prominent, hook-like process on the left side. As mentioned below Sa. coccinea might actually be a synonym of Sa. sanguinea , the type species of Saccharodite , described from Java. However, the whereabouts of the type specimens of both species is unknown.
