Diagnosis
. Differing from all known species of
Ulidia
by the following character combinations: 1) head extremely expanded in front, the width distinctly more than the height, eye oblique; 2) parafacial expanded, almost as wide as gena 3) wing with postero-dorsal extension of cell bcu very short, about 0.5 times the transverse section of vein Cu2; 4) aculeus long, 7.0 times as long as wide, rounded at apex and with 4 pairs of long setae.
Description
. Wing length
3.9–4.7 mm
. Body length
5.8–6.4 mm
.
Head
(
Figs 6–7
). Frons brownish yellow, slightly shining and deeply dimpled, with two black areas along eye upper-margins and covered with numerous hair-like setulae. Ocellar triangle and vertical plates black, shining. The median facial plate and clypeus black-brown to black. Antennae, parafacial and gena brown. Occiput black. Mouthparts black-brown to black. Head extremely expanded in front, the width distinctly more than the height, eye oblique. Frons about twice as wide as the eye, 1.5 times as long as wide, almost parallel-sided. Gena about 1/2 height of the eye. Parafacial expanded, almost as wide as Gena. The median facial plate wider than antennal groove. Antennae with 1st flagellomere round apically, slightly longer than wide. Arista bare.
Thora
x. Mesonotum entirely shining and black, with several rows of acrostichal setulae, prescutellar acrostichal seta present. Base of wing and halteres brown, upper calypteres whitish. All setae dark-brown. Scutellum shining black, with 2 pairs of setae; basal scutellar setae almost the same length with apical ones.
Wing.
Hyaline, Cell bc and stigma dark brown, cell c brownish yellow, base of wing brownish-yellow, apex of wing slightly pale brownish. Postero-dorsal extension of cell bcu very short, about 0.5 times the transverse section of vein Cu2; costal vein between R4+5 and M apices at wing apex wider than r-m crossvein; R-M slightly proximal to middle of cell dm (
Fig.9
).
Legs
. Entirely black and shining except for the tarsi yellow to brown. All femur with a row of relatively long black ventral setae.
Hind
femur and hind tibia slightly thickened.
Abdomen
. Entirely black and shining except for the 6th tergite slightly black-brown, with sparse black setulose. Female terminalia with 3 spherical spermathecae (
Fig. 10
), two of which have a common duct; aculeus long, 7.0 times as long as wide, rounded at apex and with 4 pairs of long setae (
Fig. 9
).
Male
. Male genitalia with surstylus distinctly hook-like, the apex incurved strongly and having no thickened setula; phallus long, coiled and partially divided into two halves at apex (
Fig. 11
).
Distribution
.
China
(Xizang).
Etymology.
This species is named after the
type
locality.
Remarks.
Based on head expanded in front, head width distinctly more than height, fron deeply dimpled and wing posteroapical extension of cell bcu less than 1.0 times the transverse section of vein Cu2, this species seems to have a closer relationship with
Ulidia gongjuensis
sp. nov.
than with other two species of this genus in
China
.
