Morphology
. Small bivalve. The oval rounded shell with rounded umbo lying posterior of the midpoint. It reaches

Distribution and ecology
. Palearctic species occurring throughout most of Europe. It has been introduced to the eastern part of North America and Africa (
Moorkens & Killeen 2009
;
Graf & Cummings 2021
). Inhabits muddy and silty substrate in a wide range of lowland habitats such as streams, rivers, canals and large drainage ditches (
Moorkens & Killeen 2009
). In
Serbia
, it was found in the Danube.
Other remarks
. This is the largest species of
Pisidium
occurring in Europe. It has 15 nominal species used as synonyms (
Graf & Cummings 2021
). It has LC status on the IUCN Red List (
Van
Damme
et al
. 2011).
