Distribution . USA (Florida, Texas), Gulf of Mexico and Brazil (Ceará, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Bahia , São Paulo, Paraná) (Coelho et al. 2007; Rosa & Almeida 2012 ; present study). Remarks . The record of Axianassa australis in Ceará represents the northern-most point in the distribution range of the species in Brazil . The burrows of A. australis may occasionally harbour the “commensal” alpheid shrimp Leptalpheus axianassae (see above).
