Holotype of Hydraecia praecipua : "Daghestan, Berkh. Gunib, 21-30.vii.1984 , D. Obydov, Gen. 1404 a" / " Hydraecia praecipua Hacker & Nekrasov , Holotype , Esperiana 8: 826" / "Gen. Präp. Hacker № 10439". Slide 10439 Hacker (Coll. ZMMU ). Diagnosis . Wingspan 24–26 mm , length of forewing 11–12 mm . The species is close to H. yakobsoni and H. shchetkini . It externally differs from H. yakobsoni by dark brown colouration of forewings and almost straight postmedial line ( Fig. 5 ). The male genitalia ( Fig. 35 ) are similar to that of H. yakobsoni ( Fig. 13 ) and differ by somewhat wider uncus, smaller juxta, somewhat larger cucullus, shorter and narrower vesica. Distinguishing features of H. praecipua from H. shshetkini are described in the diagnosis below. Distribution . North Caucasus: Daghestan. The species is known by the holotype only.
